HochwasserTok: A Clear, Engaging Website for Flood Education and Public Awareness

We’d collaborated with Martha before, so it was a real pleasure when the founder of HochwasserTok reached out again – this time to bring her new public education project online. Over a few focused, collaborative working sessions (including the occasional business dinner), we developed a clear, friendly, and informative one-pager that captures both her expertise and her mission: helping more people understand and prepare for flood events.

HochwasserTok combines Martha’s personal warmth with her deep scientific expertise – and the site needed to reflect both. As a flood researcher, educator, and communicator, she brings years of knowledge, real-world insights, and a unique voice to the topic. We shaped a website that makes all of that accessible: friendly in tone, clear in structure, and full of credibility. From research background to newsletter signup, everything is designed to support her mission – and invite more people into the conversation.

Rooted in Expertise, Ready to Launch

Martha came into the project with a clear mission and a wealth of experience: an ongoing PhD, years of research in the field, and an active presence on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, where she was already educating the public on flood preparedness. What she needed was a digital home that tied everything together – one place where people could understand her work, find resources, and follow along. That clarity made the project highly focused from the start, and allowed us to build a site that amplifies her voice and supports her outreach.

From Strong Ideas to Shared Creation

Martha chose our Starter Homepage – a focused and flexible option that matched both her goals and her timeline. She came in with clear ideas and a structure in mind, but also continuously brought in new input and additions in response to our drafts, feedback, and suggestions. What made this project special was the fast-paced, back-and-forth teamwork: Instead of creating a nearly finished draft upfront, we worked in rapid, collaborative iterations, with Martha actively involved at every stage. While not every client prefers that level of hands-on involvement, for Martha it was the perfect fit. Her website vision could evolve throughout the process and take shape step by step – from strong ideas into real implementation. After launch, we also supported Martha in updating the site to reflect the completion of her PhD – one more step in making her expertise visible and accessible.

Empowered Simplicity. Tested for Quality.

We built Martha’s website using our custom-developed OneFlow theme for the static site generator Jekyll. The result: a lightweight, fast site that’s fully responsive on all screen sizes and compliant with all legal requirements. Before launch, we ran our full quality process – combining manual and automated checks for speed, responsiveness, SEO basics, working links, and accessibility – to ensure everything met our highest PSWD standards. We’re grateful to have Martha as a returning client and proud to support her mission by turning strong ideas into a digital home that’s simple, robust, and built to last.

“I worked with Per on my website and he did a great job! Perfect and easy communication, quick response and adaptation of all my ideas. Always went the extra mile to accommodate my wishes. 100% recommended!”
